Following the postponement of today’s Northern League game against Whitley Bay we spoke to Manager James Clark.
It must have been frustrating having the game was called off. How does this effect the players?
Yeah it’s hard with a late call like today, lads have had a good rest, prepared well, starting to get players back and we were all just ready to go
There was an inspection from a Northern League Referee who had concerns regarding player safety. That has to be paramount?
100% without a doubt and with the luck we have had with injuries this season it’s completely the right thing to do
The silver lining is that you get an extra few days before the away game to Team Northumbria?
Yes that’s a good thing, but I would have liked to have kept some match rhythm also. We have an incredibly young squad on average so I’m sure they can adjust to the tempo quickly
Following Monday Dunston UTS and then North Shields. Some tough games coming up 6 away fixtures in a row and no home game now till 13th January. Does have a impact on the squad?
This was always going to be the case with the way the fixtures have been drawn. Every team and game in the northern league is a tough one. Never an easy game! We have had some good away performances so I am not worried by it
You mentioned in your programme notes the departure of Matty Waters to Shildon. As no-one will get to see them would you like to comment on his move here?
It’s disappointing to lose a player of Matty’s calibre, but it’s been a strange season for him with the suspension and injuries. He never really got going, but is a fantastic talent and Shildon have got a real player on their hands and he will do well for them and good luck to him
No game today means Washington remain a point behind Penrith and 3 from Jarrow Roofing.
Next outing is away to Team Northumbria on Monnday starting a run of 6 away games in a row.
